Procianoy F, Procianoy E. Orbital inflammatory disease secondary to a single-dose administration of zoledronic acid for treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis. Osteoporos Int. 2010;21(6):1057-1058. doi:10.1007/s00198-009-1048-1
Bisphosphonates have been related to ocular inflammation for a long time, mostly uveitis. In 2010 we treated this case of orbital inflammation that presented few days after an infusion of zoledronate. At that time, there were only 5 reported cases of orbital inflammation related to bisphosphonates (Pamidronate and Zoledronate). After this publication, dozens of similar cases have been reported, leading to the question: is bisphosphonate-induced orbital inflammation more common than once thought?
